Very Low Calorie Diets ?

by jemima_puddleduck @ 2007-01-14 - 14:17:06

I'm trying to do a little bit of leg work before jumping in head first and spending all my savings on some powdered soups! If it's going to work and it is worth it then I am more than happy to do it, but I wanted to ask a few questions first:

What is the difference between Lighter Life and Cambridge Diet ? The only difference I can see at the moment is that LL is about £60 each week and CD is about £30.

And then next of all, what is the difference between a slimfast shake and a LL or CD shake? They seem to have similar calories and nutrients etc. I know when you do the SF diet you have two meal replacements and then one "helathy balanced meal" but could you just knock off the meal and replace it with a shake or soup? Much cheaper option ... although you dont get the counselling side of things or the weigh in, you would have to do it all alone or with friends.

I am reading a lot of blogs on here, peoples experience with VLCD etc, but I would love to hear from any one who has any tips or stories they would like to share, just to help me decide what to do.

Thanks guys,

Jem.

Hi

LL is £66 per week and CD is £35. My counsellor told me that Cambridge actually produce the soups and shakes for LL!
Having a counsellor is the most important difference between Slimfast and CD. Knowing that you are going to get weighed in at the end of the week and the fact that you are paying for it can be quite motivational!
I get weighed in on Tuesday for the first time - only six days after starting. So far so good, fingers crossed I've had a bit of a loss!
Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hi Jem

VLCD's are totally different to slimfast. Slimfast is full of sugar. VLCD shakes are low carb which enable you to go into "ketosis". Ketosis is the process of burning fat. Hence when you are on a VLCD your body uses the fat you have stored as fuel so you lose weight quicker. Most ordinary diets have a high water loss not actual fat. Ketosis also stops you feeling hungry, but if you are having 2 slimfast and a meal you will still have the hunger there and so be tempted easier.
I've been told that Cambridge have a lot more flavours of bars and soups/shakes and taste nicer, but I've never tried LL so can't comment.
Hope this helps some,
Sarah x

Thank you both for commenting. It is such a big thing to decide, actually Im probably just procrastinating and would do better to just jump in head first!

I dont know what there is to think about really. Im fat, I hate being fat, so I should do something about it, instead of just talking about doing something about it.

Pay day is 27th, the CD rep should be back from her hol by then, I should make my appointment and just go for it!

Jem.
